After visiting the Heian shrine, I made the mistake of walking across Kyoto to my hostel. It looks small on the map, but it takes about two hours to walk, and by the end I was forcing myself to put one foot in front of the other. Then I discovered that Google had the location wrong, so I had to ask directions at a McDonalds, and then walk another two blocks. (Blocks in Kyoto are big) If I had checked my email the night before, I would have seen the directions they had emailed me...

The hostel is quite nice, as you can see. The location is somewhat inconvenient, but I highly recommend it. The owners are very friendly and it feels like a home stay.
