The Heian shrine is about a 10 minute walk from Chion-in. It is big, but rather disappointing, as there is not much at the shrine. The extensive gardens at the shrine are well worth visiting. Across the street is a visitors center, which has maps of Kyoto and a bus map on the second floor.
