Lantau is right next to Cheung Chau, and has some great hiking. We took the Lantau Trail on southwestern Lantau on the recommendation of the Hong Kong Outdoors web site. Take the bus from the ferry (at Ngong Ping) and get off at the Kwun Yam Temple stop. Ride the Tai-O bus for 30 - 45 minutes, past the beach, past the prison, over the mountain. You will see a colorful temple across the valley; as soon as you do, start looking on your left. You will see a grey stone entrance on your left; the stop is immediately after this. (Our bus driver was very helpful; he asked each of us where we were going, and remembered to stop at Kwun Yam for us.
