Zion was settled by Mormon settlers, so the names are all religious. In fact, the name Zion itself is a reference to Jerusalem, seen as a place of sanctuary, as the canyon obviously is. At the end of the main is the trail to the Temple of Sinawava (Sinawava is the Paiute Cayote god). Zion is very accessible for those unable or unwilling to hike all day (fortunate, given my knee). For example, the Temple of Sinawava trail is paved for the first mile or so.
