This appeared to be the main shrine. I think the shrine may be built on a spring, but I am not sure. The woman prayed for a while, but the man seemed more perfunctory; he stopped right after I took the picture. To my limited experience, this seems pretty common: Japanese women seem a lot more spiritual than Japanese men. Likewise, Japanese women are more likely to become Christians than Japanese men.
