Lotus plant at a sub-temple
The pagoda
Ninnaji is a rather large temple complex just down the road from Ryouanji. It has a few sub-temples, but its main attraction is the former Imperial palace, which has a lot of interesting walkways, a couple gardens, and a shrine (presumably to the emperor). The golden lotus plants in one of the subordinate temples are attractive. Apparently there is a nice walled garden which I missed when I was there.

The former Imperial palace is a fun tour, with its covered walkway and traditional buildings, and since it is only a five minute walk west of Ryouanji, it would make a great addition to the tour.
