The canals at Tenryuji follow the path, placing themselves in-between the viewer and the garden. Tenryuji lines its canals with rocks, and while there is only a little attempt at a natural look of the canal edgess, perhaps due to the practical need for efficiently conveying water, nonetheless, care has been taken to provide the feel of a natural stream. Here we see rocks at the bottom of the waterfall, and an island-rock before the waterfall. Also note the intentional placement of the bamboo stalk to provide visual interest with the moss growing inside of it.
