Third pond, Heian Shrine gardens21 / 22
The third pond at the Heian Shrine gardens retains the feeling of the Buddhist gardens, but is substantially different. There are actually about four islands, although this angle makes it difficult to tell, and the path winds around them in a semi-circle. There is a stone bridge, but you can walk across it (or you could if they would let you); indeed, you must walk across it. The edge of the islands do retain a natural feeling with the judicious placement of rocks around their border.
