This rock garden is hidden at what I believe to be a shrine to the founder of Osaka Castle. I suspect few visitors find it, as you need to go behind the temple, and then peer over the (short) wall. However, this is not a great example of a rock garden. The ashpault is inelegant, and the combination of rocks and ashpault is clunky, as it gives visual contrast that distracts from the rocks. The grass (too sunny for moss, probably) is arguably too prominent, and reduces the contrast of traditional rock gardens with white pebbles. The rocks have reasonable interest, although not as much as some, but the placement is seems random; the stones seem placed, as opposed to the “of course the stone is there, how could it be anywhere else” effect of the Tenryuji’s garden, and Ryouanji’s garden.
