Basilica di Santa Maria della Salute, Venice179 / 181
I was severly disappointed. Not only was it rather Classicistic, but it felt very humanistic somehow, and I only stayed a few minutes. In researching the church, I think I found out the basis for my reaction. The church is a thank offering to the Our Lady of Health for the ending of the outbreak of Black Plague in 1630. Not only is it God, not Mary who delivers from disease, but apparently the art has a lot of references to the plague (I did not stay long enough to find out).
