Apparently the church was founded in the 800s when Byzantine Emperor Leo V the Armenian gifted the Doge with the body of Zechariah. Sadly, I did not discover the church’s history until writing this, so I did not see his altar. Nor did I realize that you can visit the crypt, which is very photogenically flooded.
