I grew up near Ravenna, Ohio, and since the city has same incredible Byzantine mosaics, I made a stop on my way to Florence. Apparently Ravenna was very wealthy 700s, as evidenced from all the churches. To the modern eye, though, it is really small and quiet, much like the city in Ohio (except with much better history).
