The Green River Overlook is definitely a must see (preferably with better focusing than in this shot). Here is a good example of the second layer of canyons, which are carved just as suddenly as the first layer that we are standing on. Some points of interest to note are the jeep trail to the left, and the notable White Rim Sandstone.

We are standing on Navajo Sandstone, followed by the Kayenta Formation, the Windgate Formation (which forms the vertical parts of the cliffs in the distance), the Chinle Formation. The red parts of the plateau are Moenkopi Formation (about 240 mya), which transitions to the White Rim Sandstone (about 250 mya), forming the top of the second layer of canyons. This canyon cuts through the Cutler Group (245 - 285 mya), which is the same age as the Permian Reef at Guadalupe National Park in west Texas. The river itself is cutting through the Paradox Formation, a rather unclear geologic layer consisting of gypsum and salts. The whole park sits on top of this layer, which is slow shifting due to weight causing the salts to flow (in a geologic sort of way, not that anyone would notice...).
