After the dryness of the Chimneys Trail, I was impressed with the river. As you drive along the river, you see actual grass and some willow trees. I was reminded of the psalm that says “the righteous are like trees planted by streams of water; they always bear their fruit in season.” The canyon itself is very hot, with the sunlight radiating off the canyon walls and little wind since the canyon blocks it. However, it is cool near the river, and a gusty breeze blows through the canyon. Jesus says that he is the living water and describes those born of the Holy Spirit as like the wind: no one knows where it comes from or where it is going. Here is the contrast to the desert of the world before: living water and the breeze of the Holy Spirit.
