Here we are, the Window! It was described as a V in the rocks, so I was not expecting much, but the canyon walls narrow suddenly, the rock becomes very slick, and you have this wonderful view to the west. I particularly like the gradient of colors of the mountains, from blue in the back to brownish-blue, to greenish-brown in the desert valley, to greenish-yellow on the hill closest to us (which might be the hill that the Lower Window Trail takes).
Stay a healthy distance from the edge: the rocks are surprisingly slippery, and it is a couple hundred feet drop. Imagine you are water flowing down the Basin, don’t be a droplet yourself.
This is difficult to photograph; I’d recommend a tripod and multi-exposures maybe with some HDR post-processing. Otherwise you’ll have to hand-hold it and do lots of post-processing. Or maybe come mid morning near an equinox and hope that the sun hits the canyon walls. (Too bad that on my spring trip near the equinox I wanted to spend my morning hiking out to the South Rim)
