Big Bend has more varieties of animal life than any other national park, as the elevation changes produce a wide variety of biomes. These black grasshoppers caught me by surprise, since I’d only seen the regular yellowish ones before. I think this one is a red-winged grasshopper—when they fly they suddenly have a splotch of red around them.
