The Lost Mine trails starts a little up the road from the campsite. The trail travels among evergreens, grasses, and sotol plants for a while, then begins ascending at the top of this valley. Visible straight ahead is the east rim of the Chisos Mountains, the trail continues parallel to the Rim, but to the east of it.
