- Tomorrow’s church will look like you [leaders] are today. In the end, we reproduce who we are.
- Story about preparations for a church service in the park: $23,000 of trusses, lights, speakers. Prayed and prayed that it wouldn’t rain. It rained. Sunday (during the service) Wayne was mad at God. God spoke to him and said “you prayed for the absence of rain, but you never prayed for My presence. If there were no rain but I were not there, would you be happy witht that?”
- The road to success and the road to a nervous breakdown often look the same.
- Principles
- Know what fills and drains your tank.
- Who am I with? What am I doing? Where am I doing it?
- When you get too busy we tend to not have the time to do the stuff that fills us. This is suicide.
- If your drains increase, you need to increase your fills
-

anxiety attack _ emotional attack _ nervous breakdown —> drain - What fills/drains your spouse? Pray for the fills and try to eliminate drains
- Understand balance in life
- Take a member of your family with you when you travel
- If an elder goes south, the church can keep going. If your family goes south, you can’t keep going.

heart - This is called following the Holy Spirit.
- Learn to lead out of rest
- Schedule rest
- Your day begins when you sleep
- You get more rest earlier in the night, rather than later. Therefore, sleep in earlier, that is, if you need more rest, go to bed earlier rather than sleeping later.
- Find a lightning rod
- Find somebody to vent on
- Your wife is not one of your lightning rods. She loves you too much
- Share your victories with her, not your problems in the midst of them.
- Ex. If you get in a fight with a board member, and you tell your wige about it, she’s now upset at him. Later he calls to apologize, and both of you are fine, but you forgot to tell your wife, so she’s still upset at him.
- Discipline your daily devotions
- Need to journal
- Can’t look at the Bible as material for sermons. Look for application for yourself and speak from your heart change.
- The goal isn’t to get there faster, but to get there with the flame intact.
